6 Month Exemption from MOT Testing
Westlake Motor Services are keen to help spread the news about MOT Exemptions to our clients, their families and anyone else who is concerned and looking.
The message from the government is as follows.
• • • If your vehicle’s MOT expired on or before 29 March 2020, you must book an MOT as usual unless either:
• • • • you or someone you live with has coronavirus symptoms
• • • • you’re extremely vulnerable from coronavirus• • • You must stay at home (self-isolate) if either of these situations apply – do not take your vehicle for its MOT.
If it’s due on or 📅 after 30 March 2020 your vehicle’s MOT expiry date will be extended by 6 months but you must keep your vehicle safe to drive.

To save you time, we’ve presented the list of ☐ checks you should be carrying out on your vehicle before driving to try to ensure you are not fined or given points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition;
• • • ☐ the windscreen, windows and mirrors should be clean
• • • ☐ all the lights should work
• • • ☐ the breaks should work
Your vehicle handbook should tell you how often to check;
• • • ☐ the engine oil
• • • ☐ water level in the radiator (or expansion tank)
• • • ☐ brake fluid level
• • • ☐ the battery
• • • ☐ windscreen and rear window washer bottles – top up with windscreen washer fluid if necessary
• • • ☐ tyres – they must have the correct tread depth (1.6 mm for cars) and be free of cuts and defects
The handbook will also tell you when your vehicle needs to be serviced.
